NCAN - Event

Despite a complete absence of funding this year, cash-strapped NCAN (Nottingham Contemporary Artists’ Network) will be going ahead with its annual Open Festival of Contemporary Art. Like last year, the festival will span the whole of October. In addition to three weekends of open studios (in Nottingham and also in Southwell and Long Eaton), there will be educational and social events including ‘big draw’ workshop at Oldknows Studio (on 25th), the ‘Stuff of Life’ arts and community festival (with art on the railings, live art, poetry and music) in Sherwood Rise (on 11th) and an exhibition of work produced by Nottingham based artists at The Yard Galley in Wollaton Park (from 24th). Saturday 4th October, 11.00 am -5.00 pm, Open Studios at Oldknows Building, St Ann’s (and other studio venues to be confirmed), Nottingham
Sunday 5th October, 11.00 am - 4.00 pm, Open Studios at Oldknows Building
Sunday 5th October, 3.30 - 4.00 pm, Cafe Con Brio performance at Oldknows Studio Group (Oldknows Building)
Saturday 11th October, Stuff of Life Festival, Hedley Villas Park, Sherwood Rise (Art-on-the-Railings, art & craft stalls, live art, music, poetry, bread and food) (wear white, if you want to be a living sculpture!) 12.00-4.00 pm
Saturday 18th October, Southwell Open Studios 11.00 am - 4.00 pm (venues to be confirmed)
Thursday 23rd October, Preview of (NCAN) exhibition (curated by S&T Arts) at Yard Gallery, Wollaton Park, 6.00-8.30 (2BC)
Friday 25th October, Launch of HMS OPEN (and new exhibition), 6.30 – 9.00 pm
Saturday 25th October, Open Studios at HMS (and other studios) in Long Eaton
Saturday 25th October, (Big) Drawing on the Past collaborative drawing workshop with Chris Lewis-Jones (part of the Big Draw Festival) at Oldknows Studio, 10.30 am – 3.30 pm. £10 adults (£2.50 under 16)
