MA graduate winner - Ruchi Goyal

September 2008 – RUGMARK ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF ITS FIRST ETHICAL RUG DESIGN COMPETITION.

RugMark UK has announced the winners of its ethical rug design competition. This is the first year for the competition, which aims to raise awareness about the ethics of rug manufacturing amongst design students and interior designers.

The competition was open to students registered at universities in the UK and Ireland, and was won by Ruchi Goyal, an MA student at Nottingham Trent University. Her prize was a trip to Kathmandu to see her rug being hand knotted by skilled artisans.

"The best thing about my trip to Kathmandu was when I entered the workshop and saw my rug on the loom" says Ruchi aged 27

"The most important and wonderful thing that RugMark does is to take children out of the rug factories and give them the safe and healthy environment that a child needs. It helps them with their schooling and development when their families can't afford it."

Broadway Cinema, Thursday 25th September, 18.30-19.45

Event: ICO Essentials: PLAY "advised cert 15 1hr 16mins"
Host: Digital Broadway

From the ICO website:
"Play honours the irreverent, impudent, subversive and fun in artists’ film. Ranging from Dada to Postmodernism this programme is a playground for unconventional ideas and approaches, with work that mocks and parodies a cinema that takes itself seriously for all the wrong reasons. These playful works cast aside pretensions and freely celebrate life and art in all its forms.

"The programme features celebrated work ranging from pioneering dada short Filmstudie by Hans Richter, John Smith's irreverent linguistic conundrum Associations and George Kuchar's camp classic Hold Me While I'm Naked."

Gold-Soundz - Private View

I'd like to invite you to the opening of Gold-Soundz on Saturday the 27 of September from 1 till 3pm, at Southwell Artspace.

Gold-Soundz is an exhibition inspired by music, especially music played with guitars often quite loudly. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, videos, print, books, music and sound installations all combine to create an engaging and thought provoking exhibition.

The idea being not to promote a literal representation of music, but a more lyrical and humorous approach, where music and sound become part of the inspiration to the artistic process, founded on the joy and appreciation of music.

Curated by Geoff Diego Litherland, Gold Soundz runs from Saturday 27 September to 1 November. All welcome to the Opening event on Saturday 27 September 1pm to 3pm.

Event Description:Hotel Deuxoff Sherwood Rise, NottinghamTuesday 26 August 20087.30pm – lateFREENottingham’s newest platform for live art is checking into Hotel Deux for another evening of the most exciting, intriguing and curious performance-y work in town. Hatch invites you to Wish You Were Here as 16 artists respond to notions of absence, longing and nostalgia for the Great British Holiday.Hotel Deux hosts a human menagerie of weird and wonderful characters for one night only. A live artist becomes a beach on the patio. A cardboard ice cream van becomes a Punch and Judy Show. A one-woman-band plays a piano with a fork attached to her head. Hello Friends spend the night in the dining room dressing the part. The Lone Diner sits at a table for one and sings a sad, sad song. Mable’s Husbands are the hotel’s house band playing a sleazy finale of arthouse electro.
